Air and surface sampling analyzed by an accredited third-party laboratory, with the licensed assessor deciding on the day whether any testing is needed.
How testing is decided
Sampling is one part of an assessment, not a product sold on its own. On site, the licensed assessor determines whether samples would establish something the inspection cannot, and which samples suit the situation. These are the circumstances where sampling most often applies.
Where someone is being treated, the species and levels matter to the practitioner. As a MedVendor CIRSx Verified Provider, Celtic documents results in a form your doctor can work from.
Indoor spore levels measured against the outdoor air on the same day. That comparison is what establishes whether the building itself is contributing.
Where there is reason to think growth has moved into a wall cavity or the HVAC system, sampling helps establish the extent.
Where a written record is going to be relied on by an insurer or an attorney, laboratory results form part of it.
What it costs
Each on-site assessment allows for testing, and whether any samples are taken is the assessor's call on the day. Additional samples are available where the assessor determines they are needed.

Celtic does not sell samples on their own. A laboratory result cannot be interpreted without the context of the building it came from, so sampling is carried out as part of an assessment. New York State separates assessment from remediation for a related reason, which is that the party testing should not be the party selling the cleanup.
Home test kits have real limits. Spores are present in every building, so a kit will almost always show something growing, and that result on its own does not tell you whether the level in your home is elevated, where any moisture is coming from, or what should be done about it. Those are the questions an assessment answers.
ERMI is a DNA-based index of mold species found in settled dust, and it is the test most often requested by physicians treating CIRS. You would need it if your practitioner has asked for it. Otherwise the assessor will tell you whether it adds anything in your situation.
Results usually take a few business days, which is the laboratory turnaround. If the timing matters for a closing or an insurance claim, mention that when you book and we will tell you what is realistic.
If the results come back clean, you have independent documentation saying so, produced by a firm with no cleanup to sell you. That is a legitimate and fairly common outcome.
